Came here recently since we were in the area, but I have been here many, many, many, many (many) times before. I used to live in Costa Mesa and now I am quite sad that I don't live literally down the street anymore. It is not surprising that this restaurant survived through the pandemic, the business killer that was COVID-19. The sushi quality is pretty good, fresh, and they always have some sort of hand roll deal going on (every day is different!). You'll find the special deals on the tiny blackboard near the chefs. It is also not crazily expensive. If you're expecting fancy, top quality meat, this restaurant is not it. Your orders typically arrive on the conveyor belt and you have to watch for your table number label, but sometimes they do bring it directly thru a server. Make sure you take all the plates when you grab the food, because that is how they calculate your cost at the end of the meal. Service is actually pretty quick, although if you're exceptionally hungry, you may think it is torture watching your order rolling slowly down the conveyor belt. Especially if you sit farther from where the conveyor starts! Ambience is casual, lots of people just out here trying to enjoy good sushi. So if you're thinking about trying this place, think no more. My sister has checked in to this place 60 times as of the time I wrote this review, she has done all the thinking for you. You won't regret coming here. Just make sure you get there when it opens. Otherwise expect a wait.
Came here for dinner on a friday weekday. We were told we have to wait for about 30-40 mins for a table but got seated by 20 mins. The inside of the restaurant bar was pretty small so it made sense as to why we had to wait but the line does move very quickly since people usually come in and out fast. Scallop Nigiri 5/5 - Very sweet and tender with the perfect amount of sushi rice Bluefin Tuna Nigiri 5/5 - I don't like tuna that much because of the fishy-ness but the tuna here was incredible since it had a very clean and tender taste to it. Salmon and Hamachi 5/5 - Also very good pieces of sushi with very sweet, mild, and tender tasting pieces given to us Overall this place was really good. If you're looking to eat at a sushi bar with quick service I would recommend this place to anyone who also likes revolving sushi style restaurants.
We were seated very quickly. A fun little conveyor sushi spot hidden in this shopping center. The service was quick and attentive. Their fresh fish is the best, rice is a little dry, a little chewy but the quality of their fresh fish made up for it.
I had been waiting for forever to come here because of the raving reviews on Yelp, recommendations from friends, and also because of the crowd I always see outside. Tall tale sign that it's a good spot to go to. It's a small space with minimal seating but if you go on a Monday night, no wait whatsoever! We got sat right away and it was such a fun experience. The servers were kind and efficient but ordering was simple! You simply check off the orders on the paper, place it in a cup on the conveyor belt and eventually, your order comes back around to you. I loved it! Quality of the fish was fantastic and the slices of fish were thick. Thick and tender. The miso soup was good as well. I will definitely be returning. The quality of the sushi was great for the price point.
Is it the most extravagant sushi out there? No. Is it worth the price and a decent weekday meal? Absolutely. This is a cozy little revolving sushi restaurant with an unassuming storefront. I couldn't tell it was open lol. There are a few dishes (salmon nigiri, edamame, and some rolls) permanently on the belt. The rest of the food you have to order by marking on the paper menu and putting it in the clear cup. The chefs will prep your order and place it on the white cup with your table number. I love that they have a wide selection of fish. The quality is solid for the price. None of it tasted fishy or suspicious. My favorites are the scallops and mackerel. Because of how cheap the plates are, we ate our heart out and ended up spending way more than we expected. No complaints though!
My new favorite conveyor belt sushi spot in Orange County! I had a great experience here but there are a few aspects of the restaurant that can really alter your experience. Starting off with the wait - it's a small restaurant so it's going to be a long wait during peak hours. We went on a Friday night and it was about 40 minutes for a party of two. Because the restaurant is small though, you're going to be waiting even longer if you have a larger party. There are only three booths in the restaurant, and the rest is conveyor belt seating. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you have more than five in your group. Then comes the actual place you sit. When we were here, there was basically nothing on the conveyor belt. You'd order through an order seat by placing it on the conveyor belt, then waiting for the chef to receive it, and send back your order. We sat right in front of the chefs and our experience was wonderful, just having them deliver our food right to us instead of waiting. Finally, the sushi itself was really good! The cuts of fish were surprisingly sizable and had great flavor. Tons of different fish on the menu and delicious hand rolls! The sake salmon was what surprised me the most. It was one of the cheaper dishes while being one of the thickest cuts of fish I saw. Salmon lovers will enjoy it here! Overall, a must try if you're into conveyor belt sushi! Just be prepared to wait if you come during peak hours.
This is my go-to revolving sushi spot in Orange County! It is mainly bar-style seating, with a few larger tables for groups, so it's better to go in smaller groups. When you walk in, you are greeted with a very strong fishy stench, reminding me of a fish market. However, after a few minutes I do get used to that smell. The place has a bit of dust, which shows its long-standing presence, but trust me, the sushi is worth it. While there has been recent price increases, I still believe the quality of the fish is better compared to other revolving sushi places in the area. The menu is very diverse, offering a variety of nigiris, handrolls, and sashimi. My personal favorites are the salmon mayonnaise nigiris, which feature thinly sliced fresh onions drizzled with a sweet mayo sauce, and the scallop rolls that are always a hit. One of the best parts of the experience is the chance to either order directly from your table or snag whatever looked good from the revolving belt. I love watching what other people order, making me want to try everything. With such an extensive menu and consistently well-prepared classic sushi, this place never gets old. This spot truly stands out for its quality and variety, making it a must-visit for any sushi lover in the area.
One of my parents and I must hit up spot for a simple and quick conveyor belt sushi fix. Sushi quality is subpar and service is decent. We haven't had a bad experience here at all. Just grateful Kaiten is still in business! 3 ways to get your food: #1 - Order with the staff (appetizers, salad, udon) #2 - Take whatever you wish to have off the conveyor belt #3 - Mark your orders off on the sheet (make sure you put your seating # on there) and place it in the clear containers on the conveyer belt Our favorite items here are: mixed tempura, sashimi salad, tempura udon, handrolls, scallop sushi, unagi sushi and no rice salmon cali cut roll (this item is rare to see). All others are good but not OMG outstanding. FYI: Kaiten by no means is a fancy dining sushi restaurant. We come here because the plate prices are definitely lower costing than all the other revolving sushi bars in the area. It is a super hole in a wall spot that definitely needs a facelift and cleaning. The Interior is a little darker than I would like. None of the sushi chefs are Asian. Do not come here in large groups. At most party of 4. But they do have 3 booths that you can squish a party of 6 into. Generally there is a huge wait during peak hours. I say anytime other than that wait is less than about 40 minutes. You have to be there in person with all your party present to be seated.
